H.H. Pope Shenouda III 40th Day Memorial Service
Sunday, April 29th, 2012

The church held a memorial service commemorating the 40th day for the departure of our beloved father H.H. Pope Shenouda III on Sunday, April 29th following the Divine Liturgy. The memorial started by the Liturgical 40th Day prayer followed by a video and a slide show portraying memories of our congregation with His Holiness. Fr. Daniel shared some memories and the impact of Pope Shenouda on His life and on the lives of many through his example and writings. We were blessed to have Rev. Dr. Wafik Wahba who shared some memories about his His Holiness and times of interaction between them where the Pope's fatherly love was felt. Fr. Pishoy displayed his last pictures with His Holiness which he took on January 28th in Cleveland prior to the Pope last journey to Egypt. His Holiness prayed for all his children at SMSV during this time and gave us his blessings. May our Lord rest the soul of our beloved father in the paradise of joy and grant us his perpetual prayers.

Arabic Mission Ministry Memorial Service for H.H. Pope Shenouda III
April 28th, 2012

The Arabic Mission Ministry held an ecumenical memorial service to commemorate H.H. Pope Shenouda III on Saturday, April 28th at St. Elizabeth of Hungary R.C. Church. The evening started by the Liturgical 40th Day memorial prayer which was then followed by a time of praise led by the New Song Team. Our guest speakers included Fr. John Ramzy (St. Mark, Scarborough), Fr. Jeremiah Attalla (St. Demiana, Etobicoke), Fr. Estefanos (Syrian Orthodox), Fr. Shavi (Roman Catholic), and Rev. Dr. Sameh Maurice (Presbyterian). The speakers all focused on their relationship with the Coptic Orthodox Church, their memories with His Holiness, and the impact of the Coptic Orthodox Church in the modern day world. Everyone felt the blessings of being united together in one place in order to praise and worship God as well as remember the remarkable life of a faithful patriarch who has left his mark on each individual soul. The church distributed gifts to all the attending congregation which included pictures, a DVD, a bookmark, and an envelope with a Canada Post stamp which carries the image of H.H. Pope Shenouda that was custom made by our church.  We praise God for this day of solidarity and unity.

St. Timothy & St. Athanasius Coptic Orthodox Church (STSA)
A New Mission Church in Washington, D.C.

Inaugural Divine Liturgy on April 28, 2012

The SMSV Family congratulates the congregation of STSA in Washington, D.C. and Fr. Anthony Messeh for the inaugural Divine Liturgy which was celebrated by H.G. Bishop David along with several fathers from the area and hundreds of parishioners on April 28th. Fr. Pishoy represented our church in attending the Liturgy and extending our joy on this blessed occasion. The congregation of STSA thanked the active role of SMSV in paving the way to missionary ministry in North America. May our Lord bless this new missionary parish and we look forward on partnering and networking together.

Holy Week and Feast of Resurrection
April 8 - 15, 2012

The Holy Week is the peak time of the year where we all grow in the spirit and come in modesty and a prayerful spirit to praise and worship God. This time comes at the conclusion of an ascetic period of 47 days of fasting and prayer where we focus on repentance, prayer, and service. This year, the theme for the Holy Week sermons was "The Words of Christ on the Cross" which was inspired by the book of His Holiness bearing the same title. The services this year of Palm Sunday, Great Friday, and the Feast of Resurrection were marked by enthusiasm, welcoming many new guests and members of the church, and an overall spirit of spiritual growth and mutual love. May our Lord bless our congregation and we pray that this ministry would continue as a light house in this region and beyond.

A Night of Praise in Preparation for Pascha
Apostle to the Nations Arabic Mission Ministry
March 31, 2012

The Arabic Mission Ministry held its seasonal praise and worship night in preparation for the Holy Pascha week on Saturday, March 31st. Our guest, Ziad Shehadeh, led the praise which mainly focused on the cross and salvation. Fr. Pishoy shared a meditation entitled "Light Shining in Darkness" and quoted from several works of H.H. Pope Shenouda III. Some members of the meeting also shared by giving an update about the mission or their experiences in coming to Christ. Altogether it was a night of deep spirituality and a true sense of appreciation to the salvation of the Lord. Also, a great mark of the night was the remarkable attendance of a very diverse congregation from many countries and denominations. We thank the Lord for the spirit of unity and common vision of glorifying the Lord.

Funeral Service of H.H. Pope Shenouda III
March 20, 2012

With grieving hearts, the Coptic Church has laid to rest our beloved shepherd and faithful father H.H. Pope Shenouda III on Tuesday, March 17th, 2012. SMSV held a special memorial service following the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, March 18th to remember and acknowledge the support and contribution of His Holiness in establishing and praying for our church and congregation. A special presentation of our memories with His Holiness was shared which portrayed several video clips, pictures, and voice recording. Many speakers representing the congregation shared words of love and admiration of our beloved father. On the same evening, Fr. Pishoy travelled to Egypt where he attended the funeral of His Holiness at St. Mark`s Cathedral in Cairo. It was amazing to witness clergy, dignitaries, and elected officials from every corner of the earth attend the funeral and share with genuine affections love and respect to His Holiness and to his legacy. We can honestly say that Pope Shenouda`s departure has united everyone in the love of God, respect for one another, and established a united front for the future of Egypt. May our Lord repose the soul of our honoured father and may he continue to mention us before the throne of God in the heavenly kingdom. Dear Sayedna, we will all miss you and miss your joyful smile and encouragement ... but we know that you are in a much better place now seeing the Lord face to face ... and your prayers for us now are perpetual ... Pray for SMSV and her congregation ... the church that you loved and cherished ... we will forever be indebted to your paternal love.

Fr. Pishoy's Poem entitled: My Pope

H.H. Pope Shenouda III

1923 – 2012

Our beloved and honoured father H.H. Pope Shenouda III rested in the Lord on March 17, 2012. His Holiness is so dear to us as he established St. Maurice & St. Verena Coptic Orthodox Church, the first missionary multicultural Coptic Church in North America. Sayedna gave us so much personal attention and love that made us feel very special. This enormous spirit and pastoral care is beyond comprehension. Pope Shenouda’s kindness will always be remembered and cherished all over the world but particularly in our parish. May the Lord rest his soul in the paradise of joy and may he always remember us in his prayers before the throne of God.

We were blessed by the visit of H.G. Bishop Angaelos on Tuesday, March 13th to lead the CREW meeting. Every church is missionary by nature and its members should be living the Great Commission of our Lord. We thank Sayedna for giving us of his valuable time during this short visit to Toronto and area. May our Lord preserve for us his grace’s priesthood.
