Palm Sunday Liturgy

April 28, 2013

The Palm Sunday Liturgy is the most attended service of the entire year. All parishioners come together to celebrate the Feast of the Entry of our Lord Jesus into Jerusalem. In the evening of the feast, parishioners come together to pray Vespers Raising of Incense and then get together to weave palms to make many shapes like crosses, jewellery and animals. In the morning, many people arrive early to participate in the Hosanna procession where the deacons and priests go around the church in different stations to read the gospel passages. Fr. Pishoy shared a message entitled "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem" where he spoke about the historical significance of Jerusalem as the Holy City where the temple was built. This is related to each person being the temple of the Holy Spirit where God dwells. The service was concluded with the General Funeral.

Interdenominational Prayer Meeting

April 22, 2013

Apostle of the Nations Arabic Mission meeting organized an interdenominational prayer meeting on Monday, April 22 which was held at St. Elizabeth of Hungry R.C. Church. It was a beautiful day of praise, worship, spiritual meditations, and fellowship between leaders from all Christian denominations and congregations. Our guests included Fr. Misael Attalla, Fr. Philopateer, Fr. Bishoy Anis, Fr. Shaivo, Rev. Sameh Maurice, Rev. Sherif Garas, Rev. Joseph Ayoub, Rev. Nezar Shaheen, and Rev. Ziad Shehadeh. There was a sense of overwhelming joy that all leaders and congregations could come together to pray for unity, strength for the persecuted Church and Christians in the Middle East, and for spreading the word of Christ in Canada. We pray that such gatherings could be repeated again in the future. We are thankful to H.H. Pope Tawadros II who is making every effort to unite the Church and who also blessed this meeting to be hosted by SMSV when Fr. Daniel & Fr. Pishoy visited Egypt in February. May our Lord bless the entire Church that it may one day unite and again become one flock for one shepherd.

Congregation Spiritual Day at the Valley
April 14, 2013

The congregation spent a beautiful spiritual day at the Valley in Orangeville on Sunday, April 14th following the Divine Liturgy. The program included two sessions on ``The Life of Submission`` and ``Gaining the Spiritual Spark``. Participants also enjoyed quiet time of personal meditation and group activities. This excursion was an essential component in the focus during this Great Lent on spiritual growth. The spirit of brotherly love and fellowship made this a very enjoyable and memorable day.

Congratulations to Carolyn Priscilla Athanasius Hyppolite for her blessed anointing on April 13, 2013. May our Lord bless her life.

Divine Liturgy Celebrated by Three of Our Honoured Bishops
April 7, 2013

We were blessed with the visit of H.G. Bishop Boutros, H.G. Bishop Serapion, and H.G. Bishop David who celebrated the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, April 7th. It was a historical day of celebration and joy to be blessed with the presence of three of our honoured bishops who were in town to participate in the enthronement of H.G. Bishop Mina. Their Graces shared a beautiful message of love, support, and encouragement to the entire congregation who welcomed them. Following the Liturgy, our honoured bishops handed out the blessing bread and also shared in an agape meal with the congregation. We are extremely thankful to our Lord for this amazing opportunity to celebrate the Liturgy with our honoured fathers and we thank them for their pastoral love and care for our congregation.

Enthronement of H.G. Bishop Mina, Canada's First Coptic Bishop
April 6, 2013

In an historical celebration at the Church of Virgin Mary & St. Athanasius in Mississauga, H.G. Bishop Mina, surrounded by bishops, priests, and thousands of congregants, was enthroned for the Diocese of Mississauga, Vancouver and Western Canada. As such, H.G. Bishop Mina becomes the first Coptic bishop to be enthroned for a diocese in Canada. Clergy and laity came from very far regions and countries to participate in this historical event. Everyone in attendance was extremely joyful to witness this day and to welcome His Grace. From the bottom of our hearts, we congratulate the clergy and congregation of the new diocese and we pray that our Lord would strengthen and bless the ministry of H.G. Bishop Mina through the prayers of our honoured father H.H. Pope Tawadros II.

Visit of H.G. Bishop Angaelos
March 23, 2013

We were blessed by the visit of H.G. Bishop Angaelos on March 23rd during the Holy Lent revival. After His Grace prayed Vespers Raising of Incense, the Junior Worship team led the congregation in three hymns. This was followed by the main meditation entitled "Victory over Temptation" which was inspired by the gospel of the second Sunday of the Holy Lent. Sayedna was so gracious to spend some time in fellowship with the congregation over an agape meal. We thank His Grace for always caring for us and supporting our ministry.

SMSV Girls Indoors Soccer Team
March 17, 2013

The girls soccer team concluded their first season of friendly competition in the churches indoors soccer league on March 17th. They practised throughout the year and played weekly games against teams from the area. This league brought many members closer to one another and emphasized sportsmanship and team work. Coptic Youth Channel (CYC) was present during this day and recorded the games. Fr. Pishoy encouraged all the participants to remember St. Paul's words "If anyone competes in athletics, he is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules" (2 Timothy 2:5); likewise we should all keep our eyes on the heavenly crown. The players also took a moment of silence to remember the life of our beloved father H.H. Pope Shenouda III. May our Lord bless every activity for the glory of His holy name.
